I LOVE September. Love October. Love November. Fall is my favorite time of year, and even though here in North Carolina, “fall” can sometimes need to be said in air-quotes, normally the weather is cooler (sweaters!), the leaves turn colors, and the world turns toward the sleep of winter. It just makes me want to eat beef stew and drink hot chocolate.
The first year we lived here, we bought and carved a pumpkin during the first week of October. Set it proudly on the front porch. By the end of that week, on account of the 80+ temperatures, we had a brown mash on our porch and thus learned and important difference between Halloween in Minnesota and Halloween in North Carolina.
This weekend we are off to our cabin in the mountains, a visit to the Linville Gorge (and possibly hiking down to the river at the bottom), Tweetsie Railroad, and - for Jared and I - a continuation of the Lord of the Rings marathon (extended edition Blu-Ray). Awesome.
