Happy New Year!
I can’t believe 2011 has begun! We stayed up late just hanging out, and I’ve spent the day recording a lesson for an updated class. So to kick off the new year and an attempt at a photo a day, here’s the view when I turn around from my computer. Lest anyone accuse me of being an all-digital scrapbooker, I give you My Desk:
I love all the creative possibility here. Stamps and ink. Glue dots. Paintbrushes and pens. Glimmer mist. Stickles. Scissors. That grey shape in the very front is a trusty 2-inch scallop punch. Under the glue dots is a box of rhinestones. Is there a quiz for what a desk says about a person? Mine might just say why don’t you put stuff away now and then?
Seriously. I do like the immediacy of having things to create with RIGHT THERE when I sit down. I’ve been developing a habit of showing up at the table every day to make some art - to increase my creativity, feed my creative soul, and to keep in the habit. I find that if I keep in my creative habits, I am generally a more creative person overall. Not to mention happier - I have found that making is a big part of who I am.
One of my 2011 projects (hello new year AND new decade! The best yet, am I right?) is a 4x6 art-card journal, creating one 4x6 art card each day. A little like a miniature art journal. I’ll share more of the cards I was making during November/December, and then I’ll start sharing the ones I make in 2011, so stay tuned. :)
I think New Years is one of my favorite times. I absolutely excel at starting new things, so the freshness, the hope, the possibility is something that’s right up my alley. No mistakes have been made yet, none of my resolutions have gotten to the “going gets tough” phase yet, and I’m filled with big plans and the energy to make them happen.
What have you decided to do for the New Year?
Have you taken a photo of your desk? What does it say about you?
