February 48, John Mayer, and Bubble Food.

There is a sneak peek of the Hybrid special issue at CK this week. You can get a preview of one of the layouts from each chapter, as well as the screen shots and steps for the technique it illustrates. More fun to come over there as the week goes on. :)

Bubble Food

Funniest thing said today, won by Rowen (as usual):

We were blowing bubbles out on the deck. I was focusing on blowing (and trying to keep from passing out - that stuff can make you really light-headed if you aren’t careful…), and didn’t notice that Rowen had disappeared for a minute. She came back with a small handful of dirt, and said,

“Mama! I got some bubble food!”

Me: “What? Food for the bubbles?”

Rowen: “Yes! Bubble food!”

So of course the mama runs for the camera. Here is the bubble food:

And then (while I still had the camera out!) she put the food near the bubbles, so they could have it. Ah. Swoon. It is officially possible to be killed with cuteness.

And it looks like the verdict is in - if you ever wondered what bubbles eat - it is the dirt in our backyard. Good news, since it’s so readily available. And bubbles eat so little..

John Mayer

Listening to The Heart of Life by John Mayer on repeat the past few days. Loving how upbeat it is. Loving the words:

Pain throws your heart to the ground
love turns the whole thing around
no it wont all go the way
it should
but I know the heart of life is good

You know it’s nothin’ new
bad news never had good timing
then the circle of your friends
will defend the silver lining

Pain throws your heart to the ground
love turns the whole thing around
no it won’t all go the way
it should
But I know the heart of life is good.

Not Emily Dickinson. But wise in its own way, more upbeat, and you can tap your foot and sing along. :)

Beware the Ides Whole Month of March

I have a friend, for whom March is a terrible month. The soothsayer said to Julius Caesar said “Beware the Ides of March”, but honestly, it’s way more than the Ides. It’s the whole stupid month. In her perfect world, there would be no March. February, fine. April, good too, but for some reason all bad things happen in March.  I feel sad, because there’s nothing I can do to help her. No amount of scrap shopping or late night chats can seem to help her shake this sadness around her. Wish I knew how to help, and that makes me sad. But we have jokingly decided that next year we’ll be skipping March altogether. So today is actually February 48. Anyone with us?

And lastly, in this random ramblin’, I just want to say thank you to Cathy, for inspiring me today. She is so honest. So real. She is the reason I got interested in scrapbooking in the first place. If a cool girl like Cathy can do it, then so can I, right? How many of us thought that when we saw her first book? And it changed us forever.

She changed me again today, when I read her blog entry. I was reminded that it’s possible to be a hero in the story of your own life. Go see. Go be changed.
